![]() ![]() Gameplay aside, Grim Guardians: Demon Purge features gorgeous pixel-filled visuals that render lovely distinct environments, stand-out enemies, and well-animated sprites. □ There just had to be an annoying Clock Tower level. If you simply hack and slash without thinking ahead then you will fail miserably so getting used to each ability as you observe enemy patterns becomes an impressively rewarding formula. For example, I ran through an area with giant birds swooping down at Maya then used her scythe ability in advance to slay each bird before they could reach her and that felt just awesome. Getting used to how each character plays then utilizing their abilities whenever it's safe and can devastate enemy forces is a huge part of the challenge and once I understood that, I started to see just how fun it was. You see the gameplay is all about timing. Well, I'm happy to report that I stuck with it and Grim Guardians: Demon Purge ended up being an exceptionally enjoyable experience after I beat a handful of stages. Why the heck is everything so clunky? □ v1d30chumz 194-143-137-78 Getting in the groove Plus, pulling off the team attack once it's charged takes forever to launch it and enemies can easily move out of the way. At the beginning, I found reloading Shinobu's gun to be incredibly irritating as it takes time and leaves her vulnerable and reviving the other character takes a good chunk of time, too, and can be even more annoying. Instead, it presents a stage-based campaign and as you play, you swap between 2 characters: the long-range Shinobu and the melee attacker Maya. However, soon after I started playing it, I was disappointed with its controls and the fact that it's not a Metroidvania.
